Ilkeston Cycling Club & Spondon Cycling Club are delighted and excited to tell you about a joint event that we are planning for this midsummer that we think will be awesome!

As close neighbours, not just geographically, we have a lot in common. Both clubs are very much committed to offering more cycling opportunities, not just to our members but to the wider communities that we are in. Working together on an event seems like the most obvious and logical thing to do and we hope that this is the start of a long and fruitful partnership.
On Sunday 23rd June, instead of the usual social rides that each club does separately, we will be planning joint rides; A Big Day Out together.

We are planning two routes, of 50 & 75 miles.

These might be longer than most of us ride on a Sunday, they might be routine for others but building up to the challenge over the next few months will be a great target and goal for many of us. A reason to get out and ride your bikes more! Who doesn’t need that?

On the day, we will meet at Elvaston Castle which is roughly halfway between Spondon & Ilkeston and head off from there. What we hope is to have various groups of similarly paced riders from the two clubs riding together, building friendships and having a great day out. The various groups of mixed riders will all use the same stop, at quite different times in the rides and there will be a social at the end too.

We will also use this as a great opportunity to do a little good by raising some money for charity and we will be inviting suggested entry fees of just £5 with every penny going to the Alzheimer’s Disease Society. A JustGiving page will be set up and if anyone wishes to raise sponsorship that would be welcome too.

Watch out over the following months as we release more details but put the dates in your diaries!
